The 14th Annual

Homeschool Science Fair

April 16th, 2009  5:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Agawam Junior High School Cafeteria

(Across from Stop & Shop on Springfield Street)

Everyone can participate.  Individuals or groups can create a project.  If you don’t create a project, you can still come and see the science fair and get excited for your project in next year’s fair.  It’s a great learning experience, and it gives our children an opportunity to share what they have learned.

What to do for a project?  Anything that interests you.  Think of a science principle you have learned, or think of a science question you have and document your search for an answer.  Propose a hypothesis and set about to prove or disprove your hypothesis, then prepare a display that presents what you have done.  Have friends come and see your project.  Moms and dads, grandmas, grandpas too.

It’s FREE!  There is no charge, no pre-registration needed.  Just show up with your project on the night of the fair.  Doors open at 5:30 and judging starts at 6 PM.  We will present a blue ribbon as a first place award in each age category and a certificate for all who participate.  There will be special awards for those who demonstrate good scientific principle. (Hypothesis, Experiment, Conclusion)

All projects will be judged in 5 age categories; 0-7, 8-10, 11-14, 15 & up, and whole family projects.

What The Judges will be looking for:

·        Clarity – how clearly its presented ( can the observer follow what you are intending to demonstrate?)  Good Title? Diagrams?  Color?

·        **Neatness plays and important part**

·        Creative Ability – the uniqueness of the project.

·        Scientific Thought – Did you put science principles into your project?  Did you look at this project as a scientist would?  Have you learned a scientific principle?  Is there more to discover?

·        Did you do any research?  Did you document it well?  Did you do an experiment?

·        Thoroughness – was the project carried to completion?  Did the project stay in one train of thought?

·        Skill – How well is the project done?  Can the observer tell you “know your stuff?”
